The Great Lakes are not just scenery. They are places where people live, work, and play, where summer mornings mean rigging a sail, where old charter boats carry hopeful fishermen out before dawn, and where a dinghy can teach you everything you need to know about wind and patience.

The Maritime Series, begun in 2023, is an ongoing collection of oil paintings on canvas and panel celebrating the human relationship with Great Lakes water. Sailboats under full canvas, keelboats heeled in a stiff breeze, dinghies at the dock at the end of a long afternoon. Old metal charter boats that have earned every dent. Saltwater marsh grasses catching the last light of the day.

These are paintings about how people enjoy the lakes, the rituals and vessels and quiet moments that make life on the water worth painting. The Great Lakes may be freshwater, but anyone who has sailed them in a building northwest wind knows they carry all the personality of an ocean.

The series continues to grow with each season on the water.
